The New American Hymnal [NAH] - Post 2b

Every Wednesday I'll be posting two NAH posts.  One will be an actual post, while the second will be a secular  song that I heard on the radio that would gives proof to my theory that all music belongs to God.

Today's selection, Wonderwall by Oasis.

Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you shoulda, somehow, realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now

Back beat, the word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before but you never really had a doubt
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now

And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say to you
But I don't know how

Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all
You're my wonderwall

Today was gonna be the day but they'll never throw it back to you
By now you shoulda somehow realized what you're not to do
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now

And all the roads that lead you there were winding
And all the lights that light the way are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say to you
But I don't know how

I said maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all
You're my wonderwall

I said maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
And after all
You're my wonderwall

I said maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me
You're gonna be the one that saves me

Now, of course, we'd have to edit up a little to make it a worship song that doesn't repeat over and over, but this was written as a song, and in it's original context is probably about a lost love.  However, sometimes if we take apart the pieces, we make a new whole, and we have worship!

  1. Today is gonna be the day that they're gonna throw it back to you
By now you shoulda, somehow, realized what you gotta do
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now
  2. Back beat, the word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out
I'm sure you've heard it all before but you never really had a doubt
I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about you now
  3. And all the roads we have to walk are winding
And all the lights that lead us there are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say to you
    But I don't know how

  4. Because maybe
You're gonna be the one that saves me
    And after all
    You're my wonderwall

We're going to number the verses, for ease of followment (new word, made it up on the spot, keep up with me).  In verse one, the singer says we're throwing everything back to you, talking to God, about giving up everything back to Him, as we should.  The second line, of the first verse, by now we should have learned this lesson, but we're too pig headed to get it, and the third line is more obvious: I'm in love with God in a way no one can understand.

Second verse, the first line says "The world says God has forgotten us" and we know God has heard that before, and He never had any doubt about us, that our love is indescribable.

Verse 3, the bridge, The road we walk is winding, is not easy, and there will be obstacles that will get in our way to make us look away from our goal, and that I can't seem to pull together the words that I have for you, God, and that maybe, God is going to save me, because after all He is my wall that will not fall.

Oasis, one of those fundamental 90's rock group, didn't need to cover themselves in labels, and even had a few problems between brothers, but this song is filled with more God love than half the music marketed for Christian radio.

Grace and Peace,
Jesse
